Mirian Nojh has seen many aspects of the fashion world - she’s a model, a stylist, and now full time creator. She has garnered over 50,000 followers on Instagram and over 200,000 followers on TikTok by sharing stylish clothes one could only dream of pulling off.

Mirian has worked in the fashion industry since 2014, but her love for it has been there for as long as she can recall. From working as an agency booker to being a stylist to running her own fashion blog, it’s always been about fashion. So it was only natural for her to inspire others and share her creativity by creating content for brands.

We chatted with Mirian about what it was like to become an influencer, why she loves fashion, and how she continues to stay creative on social media.

Cleo: How did you begin becoming a social media creator? We know this is only one part of what you do, though! Can you describe what other hats you wear day-to-day?

Mirian: It started because I was doing other work and I wanted to share those experiences on social media. For example, I used to be a stylist, so I used Instagram to show behind-the-scenes with clients or published work. Then I started a blog, and wanted to share that as well. A couple of years ago, I realized the strength of digital platforms as a way to connect with people so I pivoted to focus on building and sustaining my digital community through social media.

I do content creation for brands and my social media full-time and there’s so much that goes into it. For me, those jobs include creative director, producer, photographer, copywriter, community manager, tech support, and more. I have to wear a lot of different hats every day.

Cleo: How do you plan your social media content? What do you use as inspiration to come up with ideas? And how do you come up with all those amazing outfits!?

Mirian: In the past, I used to rely on various social media trends and challenges or simply documenting my life to connect. But recently, I’ve shifted to thinking about the services and values I can provide to my followers. The planning comes from asking myself how I want to inspire and educate others.

It’s important to me to be curious about things outside social media that I can then bring onto the platforms. I have lots of interests and I use my accounts as my vehicle to share them. I like to read books and articles on the fashion industry, as well as find out what’s going on in other industries. I just want to learn, find connections, and see how things influence and affect each other. I collect information and see how it leads to inspiration and creating new ideas.

I always stay open to new things - I love finding and following interesting people. Pinterest is especially interesting to me right now because that platform is so visual and you can easily find and curate things.

Cleo: Considering the stylish content you consistently post, what kind of community are you working to build on social media?

Mirian: The most important thing to me is to create a community with shared values. It’s not about the kind of style you have, but rather that I try to lead with the values that are most important to me and understand that it will attract likeminded people. Empowerment, self-expression, individuality, diversity and authenticity are important to me so I make them central in my digital presence because I know people will connect with that and hopefully feel more inspired to embrace those themes in their lives too.

Cleo: What do you find works best on your social media channels to engage your audience? How do you incorporate brands so seamlessly into your feed?

Mirian: For me, it’s leading with creativity and trying new things. Original content and ideas create the most engagement because they’re fresh. Also, it’s important not to underestimate my audience. People are complex so I try to honour that and engage with them as I would a friend.

As for brands, I think that the way to do that is to understand the brand. What do they stand for? What are their values? Do they align with what I do? If so, then it will just be a natural extension and won’t feel forced. You want brands to fit you and your social media. Partner up with brands or campaigns that hold the same values that you do, and it should be seamless.

Cleo: What advice would you give to a new creator who is currently trying to grow their social media accounts?

Mirian: I would say short-form video is where it’s at. Focus the most on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. The way people want to connect is via video because it’s more intimate. Use video to tell your story, especially if you’re currently starting off. After that, bring your full self to your content. Also, you don’t have to be specific in one niche. Don’t do everything, but don’t limit yourself if you have 2-3 related niches that you want to include in your work.. Be consistent and share various aspects of your life online. That way people can form a genuine relationship with you.

Cleo: What’s your favourite way to take a break from social media?

Mirian: When I want to get away from the online world, I always go the other direction by connecting with family or friends IRL. Or I’ll do things that are tactile. This means getting to touch and feel and do something with my hands. That includes DIY improvements around my home or getting back into painting. Ultimately, I want to use my hands more and be able to see something I made from them.
